Attention Racers - there will be no more driving on gravel out
to Kearney Raceway Park as the road work out at the track is almost
complete. We now have a wonderful two lane road from Highway
30 (which was completed last year) to the main gate and we have a
just completed a 700 foot section coming in from the main gate.
We now have a nice single lane road coming off of the two lane to
the ticket shack and a single lane road connecting the south end of
the pits which was all done in concrete. The route of
race car traffic will now go in a counter clockwise motion.
Cars coming off the return road that pit on the east side will be
required to use the new pit road to return to that side. This
will eliminate the bottle neck at the staging lanes that was a
problem at big races.

Once it dries out, they will build a two lane gravel road from the
end of the concrete out past the end of the track on the right side.
This is being done for the farm and grain truck traffic and for
future commercial uses. We will be adding gravel to the
shoulders of the new road so that if you get off the edge you won't
have to worry about getting off in the mud. We would like to
thank Grady Koch for all his hard work in getting these improvements
organized and implemented! Also, a big thank you to the
City of Kearney and Buffalo County for their assistance with getting
this project completed.
You will also notice that the name of the road into the track has
changed! It is no longer Imperial Avenue but is now called
Thunder Road! How appropriate! Check out the sign when
turning to go to the track.
KRPI can now can take credit cards for payment of entry fees and any
concession stand purchases. We are also pleased to announce
that Annette Kuehn (Keith's Mother) will be our new Concession Stand
Manager taking over the Pit Stop duties after the tragic loss of
Trudi Bender earlier this spring.
Racers will notice that we have added 800 feet of K-rails to the
east wall with another 1200 feet to come later. This was done
to enhance the safety of our races. They will also notice that
the dirt mound and trees that were across the end of the track have
been removed. All the old junk equipment and concrete that was
located on the west side at the end of the track is also gone making
it safer for racers.
Cruise Nite 2011 is coming up and there will be some adjustments to
the event schedule. The gates will open on Saturday at 8 AM
with Time Trials starting at 9:30 AM. The 1st round of the
Plum Creek Gamblers Box and No-Box races will start at 1:30 PM.
We are doing this to allow more track time for the street cars
starting at 4:00 pm that are coming in from the Cruise Nite Car
Show. We are also checking into getting a Top Alcohol Dragster
and possibly even a Funny Car in for some runs on Saturday afternoon
and Saturday evening.
NOTICE:ET Finals & Points system changes
For the 2010 season we will be doing
something a little diffrent with the points and ET finals
qualifiying. First on the ET Finals that will be held in
Topeka again for 2010. In order to qualify to participate this
year you must run at least two (2) Summit ET races at Kearney
Raceway Park, Inc. and be in our points. This is a new
requirement by the NHRA please make sure that if you are thinking
about going to be signed up for points before you run any of our
points meets.
Second for the 2010 season we are going to make some changes to the
points system at our track. We have scheduled 17 points meets
for the 2010 season, we are going allow 2 of these to be missed
during the season. As an example if we hold all 17 races then
you will count the best 15 out of the 17 to your points total.
If we have 2 rain outs then it would be the best 13 out of 15.
In other words the total points meets held minus two (2), we are
doing this after requests from races that will have to miss meets
due to other activities.
